Our Story, why and how SSDC started

I have owned dogs for years, previously a Dobermann and English bull terriers. My grand parents had a little red sausage dog called Mitzi, she was much loved but carried every where and unfortunately rather over weight as a result. My memories are of her belly rubbing on the floor, not ideal.

Having lost our beautiful English bull terrier at aged just 6 in September 2016, being without a dog didn't last long, as going for walks alone felt odd, and when I came home no one was (always) pleased to see me.

We picked up our tiny, very handsome black and tan miniature smooth haired dachshund,

Sard Onyx Diamonddax "Oni" in November 2016 when he was just 8 weeks and 3 days old. Quickly an obsession grew and before long we where looking for a companion for him. Margot our silver dapple smooth mini girl was born on my Birthday in 2017 and joined us in April 2017.

While Christmas shopping in Bath, a lovely and self confessed, Crazy Dachshund lady, Laura of Houndbound came and introduced herself. Explaining she owns dachshunds, runs doggie day care and also the founder and organiser of the Bath sausage dog club (SDC). We started to go to Bath, and still do for sausage dog walks. At the time we just had Oni who gained in confidence and seemed to just love being around other dachshunds.

Bath isn't far, but it got me thinking about starting a club locally. I work full time and can't always make it to Sausage Dog Club (SDC) walks. Just walking around town people stop and talk to you, they either own dachshunds themselves or know someone else that does. Before long I organised our first walk at Old Sarum, one Sunday morning, people actually turned up and enjoyed the walk! Now we have around 40 sausage dogs averaging 28 dachshunds on our walks recently. We love it, our dachshunds love it and I hope those that come love it too.

So I started Salisbury Sausage Dog Club (SSDC) as a little bit of fun and a way to meet fellow dachshund owners and addicts. Dachshund owners, are, on the whole, friendly and sausage dog passionate. I have made a great friends in the last year through the Bath club our own club and Instagram, and am enjoying continuing to make more.

Update

On the 31st August 2017, we lost Oni to a short illness aged just 11 months old. This was devastating and even now months later its does not make much sense.

Moby, a black and tan smooth coated mini was born on 1st August 2017, and came to join us October, he inherited Oni's Instagram account with approx. 9000 followers and quickly became part of our family settling in well and keeping Margot-moo good company.

Thank you.

Spread the word and let SSDC grow. Hope to see you on our next or any up coming walks.
